Accessibility

Descroll works with the accessibility settings already on your phone. Here's what each one does in the app, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

Decide once

  • Nothing to remember. Places block on their own when you arrive. Every choice comes with a sensible default, and every screen asks at most one question.
  • Plain words. One idea per line. A block screen says where you are, when the app is back and what to do instead.
  • No verdicts. Numbers say what happened, never whether it was good or bad. Missing data is left out, never counted against you.
  • Assistive Access. Descroll offers a simplified scene with just the essentials.

Seeing and reading

  • VoiceOver. Every control is labeled, and every picture reads the full sentence it shows. The Presence gauge reads as one element, like “Presence 72, Steady”. VoiceOver announces when a Place switches on or off.
  • Dynamic Type. Text follows your text size. Pills wrap onto more lines and rows stack instead of cutting words off.
  • Increase Contrast. Descroll switches to its own higher-contrast palette, in light and dark.
  • Differentiate Without Color. State is never color alone: status words like STEADY are always shown, and the Presence gauge marks each band with its own pips.
  • Reduce Motion. The ripple in the mark holds still, and slides become crossfades. Starting a block skips the 3, 2, 1 countdown, and a kept block's end skips the rings and counting; the words and the haptic stay.
  • Light and dark. Appearance in Settings offers System, Light and Dark, and both looks are checked for contrast. Dark is a true black page.

Hearing

Nothing in Descroll needs sound. Every block, reminder and timer shows on screen, and a running block shows its countdown on the Lock Screen.

Touch and voice

  • Touch targets are at least 44 points.
  • Voice Control. Buttons carry the name you see, so you can say “Tap Block now”.
  • Holds. Emergency asks you to press and hold to end every block. VoiceOver and Switch Control activate it directly, with no hold.

Without looking

The main actions work without opening the app:

  • Voice and Shortcuts: say “I'm at the library”, or add Descroll's actions to a shortcut.
  • A Control Center control, and the Action button through Shortcuts.
  • Focus filters, so a Focus you already use can start a block.
  • Widgets and a Lock Screen countdown while a block runs.

This website

  • Semantic headings, landmarks and a “Skip to content” link.
  • Everything works with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
  • Animations stop, and the mark holds still, when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Text is checked for contrast in light and dark, and dark switches to a higher-contrast palette when your device asks for more contrast.
  • Appearance follows your device, or choose System, Light or Dark at the bottom of any page.
  • Text resizes with your browser, and pages work from small phones to large screens without sideways scrolling.

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA and keep testing against it.
