Terms of Use
Last updated
The rules for using Descroll, in plain words where we can. Read the part about subscriptions before you buy.
The agreement
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Zaid Al-Taie (“we”, “us”), the developer of the Descroll app, its widgets and extensions (the “App”), and this website. By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
“The store” means the store you got Descroll from, and “the store operator” means Apple Inc., which runs it.
These Terms work alongside the store's standard license for apps (the “Standard EULA”). If the two conflict, these Terms apply to the extent the store's rules allow, and nothing here reduces the rights the Standard EULA gives you. If you don't agree, don't use the App.
Who can use it
Descroll is made for people 13 and older. It isn't made for children, has no parental controls and no family plan. Use it on your own phone, to manage your own time.
Your license
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on phones you own or control, as allowed by the store's usage rules. You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the App.
What Descroll does, and doesn't
Descroll is a self-management tool. It uses your phone's location, Wi-Fi, Calendar and Screen Time to block apps and websites you choose at the Places and hours you choose. Every block is Strict: it holds, with no snooze, and every way out is a deliberate step. Apps come back when you leave the Place or when the block ends. Before then, the App offers deliberate ways out, such as your own unblock tag, an early unlock after a short wait (a weekly number you can change in Settings), or a short pause, like a walk or a right answer, after which one app opens for a few minutes. Emergency, a press and hold, ends every block at once, including Deep Focus and used-up daily limits. A Deep Focus block holds against every other way out. While a block runs, changes that would loosen it wait until it ends, and apps can't be deleted.
- It depends on the system. Location can be imprecise, especially indoors, and the system decides when to wake the App. A block can start or end late, or not at all, if permissions are off, Low Power Mode or system limits apply, or the system changes how these features work.
- You stay in control. You choose which apps are blocked and where. Emergency ends every block right away. You can turn off or delete a Place or time block for next time, and removing Descroll's Screen Time access in Settings lifts every block.
- No promised outcomes. We hope Descroll helps you spend your time how you mean to, but we can't promise any particular result, such as less screen time, better sleep or better grades.
- Not medical advice. Presence, Trends and your plan in Explore are for reflection. Descroll isn't a medical device and doesn't diagnose, treat or manage any condition.
Use it safely
- Don't block apps you may need in an emergency, such as apps for a medical device, your safety or getting home. If you need your apps back now, use Emergency.
- Don't set up or change Descroll while driving or when you need to pay attention to your surroundings.
- Only use Descroll on your own phone. It isn't a tool for monitoring or restricting anyone else.
Block together
Block together shares a block with people you invite, through the cloud account already on your phone. Each person gets their own time block at the same time. Everyone in it sees the block's name and time, who joined, and whether each person's block ran to its end, ended early or that they left. Name blocks with that in mind, and invite only people you know. Anyone can leave a shared block at any time.
Descroll+ subscriptions
Descroll+ is an optional auto-renewing subscription that adds features, described on the Descroll+ page and in the App. Both plans are in one subscription group, so you can have one at a time.
| Plan | Length | US price | Free trial |
|---|---|---|---|
Descroll+ Yearlyapp.descroll.plus.yearly | 1 year | $24.99 | 1 week, for eligible new subscribers |
Descroll+ Weeklyapp.descroll.plus.weekly | 1 week | $4.99 | None |
- Price. Outside the US, the store sets the price in your local currency. The App always shows the exact price and length before you buy.
- Payment. Payment is charged to your store account when you confirm the purchase, or when your free trial ends if you started one.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the same price and length unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Free trial. The Yearly plan includes a 1-week free trial for eligible new subscribers. You won't be charged until it ends; cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid being charged. Weekly has no trial. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Manage or cancel. On your phone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, or visit your subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Descroll+ until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the App or using Delete all data doesn't cancel Descroll+.
- Refunds. The store handles all payments and refunds. Request one through the store's report a problem page. We can't issue refunds ourselves.
- Price changes. If the price changes, the store tells you in advance and, where required, asks for your consent before charging the new price.
- Restore. Use Restore Purchases in the App after reinstalling or moving to a new phone signed in to the same store account. Descroll+ is for one person and isn't shared with a family group.
- Free days. Once, and only if you haven't had Descroll+ before, every Descroll+ feature opens free with your first block after setup, for 3 days or until you open 2 sessions in Explore, whichever comes first. They never end during a block. They aren't a subscription or a store free trial, nothing is charged, and Places and time blocks you made during them are kept, shown as Off until you subscribe.
- Offer codes. Offer codes are redeemed through the store (Redeem code in the App's Settings) and follow the terms shown when you redeem them.
Free features
Every way to block has a free version. Free includes one Place with full automatic blocking, one time block, Block now, focus sessions, one collection with a daily limit, websites, the unblock tag, early unlocks, Emergency, Block together, and today's Presence with your recent blocks. The Descroll+ page lists what's free and what Descroll+ adds today. We intend to keep the free features free. We may improve, change or remove features over time, but we won't take away a feature you're paying for during a period you've already paid for.
Fair use
When using the App or this website, don't:
- copy, modify, decompile, reverse engineer or try to extract the source code of the App, except where the law allows it;
- get around subscription checks or other technical limits;
- use the App to monitor or restrict another person;
- use Block together to harass anyone, or name a shared block with anything unlawful or abusive;
- use the App or website in a way that breaks the law or harms others.
Ownership
The App, the Descroll name, the ripple mark, and our artwork, text and design are ours and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms don't give you any rights to them beyond using the App. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything, and you keep any rights you had.
Other services
Descroll relies on services your phone provides, such as location, Screen Time, Calendar, Reminders, Health, voice commands, Shortcuts, the cloud account on your phone (for Block together), backups and the store. Your use of those services is governed by their providers' own terms and privacy policies. The App may link to other apps and websites, which we don't control.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, the App and website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will always block or unblock apps exactly when expected.
Some countries don't allow these exclusions. If you live in one, including the UK, the EU, Australia or New Zealand, you keep every right your local consumer law gives you, and nothing in these Terms limits those rights.
Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost time, data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of or inability to use the App. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid for Descroll+ in the 12 months before the claim, or USD $50, whichever is greater.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law.
Terms the store requires
Because you got Descroll from the store, the following also apply:
- These Terms are between you and us only, not the store operator. We, not the store operator, are solely responsible for the App and its content.
- Your license is limited to using the App on devices from the store operator that you own or control, as allowed by the usage rules in the store's terms of service.
- We alone are responsible for providing maintenance and support for the App. The store operator has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support.
- If the App fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify the store operator, and it will refund the purchase price, if any, for the App. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the store operator has no other warranty obligation for the App, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses from a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility, to the extent they aren't disclaimed in these Terms.
- We, not the store operator, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the App or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the App fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- If a third party claims that the App or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not the store operator, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
- You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the App, such as your mobile carrier's.
- The store operator and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept them, the store operator has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
Ending these terms
You can stop using Descroll at any time by deleting it. Deleting the App doesn't cancel a subscription; cancel that in your account settings first. We may suspend or end your license if you seriously break these Terms. The sections on ownership, disclaimers, liability and governing law continue after these Terms end.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you live somewhere that gives you the right to bring a claim in your home courts or under your local law, you keep that right. Before filing any claim, email us so we can try to sort it out together.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Descroll changes. We'll post the new version here and update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also mention it in the App's release notes. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the new Terms.
